Sam & Liz on RK

We are very happy to have Sam and Liz on RK, both from UK and working in Climate Change and Environment. They will stay untill the end of april. Our new 25 year old assistant project manager, Daudi Zabloni from Mwanza Tanzania, has started last week. He is an agriculture graduate.

On their trip around our plot they found an egg laying turtle, and a stone on which slaves were tied some 150 years ago.

Pawpaws growing on RK

The 200+ Pawpaws that we planted on RK at the beginning of this year are growing very fast. They are now approx. 1.80 meters high and the fruit will be ripe by march next year.
Here is some fruit shown:

So the WWOOFers arriving at that time will be lucky!

Beehives on RK

Tichafa and Emma have made 5 beehives that will be hung in the trees with steel wire surrounding the old well southwest of our basecamp

The small sticks on top are all grooved below. These grooves will be filled with beeswax. The wax attracts the bees and from these grooves down honeycombs will be formed

BBC Documentary ( 2008 ) about Ras Kisimani

RK diving

In 2008 the BBC made a documentary about the worlds oceans. One of the DVD’s was about the Indian Ocean and its Coastal Waters, and on this DVD was a section dedicated to Kisimani Mafia, the ancient town that once was on Ras Kisimani. In 1872 it was hit by a hurricane and partly dissapeared in the ocean.
This part shows and discribes underwater remains and findings right in front of our beach.

Some more screenshots taken from the DVD are in this presentation:

A Bush Baby! Nice that we have these lovely creatures on RK. This picture was taken by our WWOOFer Tyler Jones, of a monkey hanging in our Papayas.

Drip Irrigation System to be installed

Drip Irrigation

Here Tichafa and Aurelié are making the basement for the “Simtank” of 1.000 liters. From here the drip irrigation system will be installed to water 10 raised beds of 10 meters long. Great!
